Classical Education in the Occidental and Chinese Traditions. Parallel to the 20c. rise of a movement for classical education in the West, China has also seen increasing interest in the learning of 儒教 (classicism), often known as “Confucianism” in English. The Hellenistic intellectual tradition has been baptized and transformed by Christianity during these past 2,000 years, and it has become an integral part of the riches of the Church. Building Critical Distance to Lay a Foundation for Christian Parallel Institutions. In a modern society decaying but increasingly hostile to the full practice of the Christian faith, it is useful for Christian believers to build parallel institutions in education, business, and social welfare. This often requires us to step back from the conventional ways in which things are done by our unbelieving neighbors, and sometimes even by Christian believers who have followed the same conventions for many decades. We will discuss what ways Christians can take this “step back”.
